Do they make a case that I can put my hard drive in to connect it to my new computer?
by windmad4 on February 18, 2013Q: I recently had my dell desk top computer (running windows xp) go down. I have had it repaired four times and didn’t want to do it again so I bought an new dell (with windows 8). Here is my question. I have a case for a hard a hard drive. Can I take the drive from the old computer (xp), put it in the case, and run it on my new computer as an external drive? Or will windows 8 on new computer and xp on the external drive have issues?
They do and they call them hard drive enclosures. You will want to look at one that is for a 3.5 inch drive. The 2.5 inch drives would be for laptop drives. Make sure to get one that gets better than average reviews.

And running the WInxp drive in an external case with your Windows 8 image should not cause any issues. Your Windows 8 computer should just see the XP hard drive as nothing more than another drive letter.

Thanks for the response. That is exactly what I need. I simply need to get some documents off the old xp drive and then use it as a back up. Thanks again.
