How come I have problems with overheating after dropping my laptop?

by on December 15, 2010

Q: I dropped my dell inspiron 15r laptop about a foot onto the ground. Physically it looks fine, and sounds normal. It has been having some trouble with over heating, but usually works great. It will turn on fine, but will load differently (has 2 simpler, less “presnetable” loading screens) it will get to the screen where I put my password onto the computer, and everything looks good, including background, except for the user picture, username bar and password bar never show up. Also, the screen doesn’t turn off when I close the screen. I’ve tried taking the battery out and putting it back it, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Also, about half the time a screen comes up that says a file (it says something along the line of PXE and family file, not quite sure) has either been disconnected or can’t be used. What could be the problem, and how can it be fixed?

How can I setup a touch screen computer to act as a catalog?

by on December 2, 2010

Q: I just bought a Dell Inspiron One Touchscreen computer and I want to use it as a touchscreen catalog at my business that customers can use to browse our catalog, with text and pictures. I want it to be similar to a website but with that click and drag feel . I love the feel of the COOLIRIS program for pictures, but I need text also , so that customers have explanations and can navigate the catalog.

This will not be connected to the internet.
Please suggest some software that I can create my catalog in.

How come the keyboard for my Dell Inspiron does not work?

by on September 7, 2010

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 530 and now the keyboard does not work. The system recognizes it’s there but says the driver may be missing or corrupt. I’ve tried trying to update the driver from the C:\i386 directory, but it won’t let me. Not sure how to best fix the driver and I’ve tried to locate a new one off the net and no luck so far.

How come my computer says I need to replace hal.dll to start?

by on August 28, 2010

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it crashed. When I go to turn it on it says “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll”. It says to please re-install a copy of the file but the only disks I got with my computer was a Roxio Creater re-install, a application disk for re-installing Cyberlink PowerDVD and a Windows XP and Windows Vista re-install (I tried to re-install Windows XP but it freezes). I don’t have the money to go have someone fix my computer is there anything I can do to fix it. And if there is explain in details in not a computer person.
