Q: I want to set up a dual monitor on a computer that has a PCI slot (not PCI express), is 64-bit and running Windows 7 Ultimate. I cant seem to find an inexpensive card with the right drivers and that is running DirectX11 which is what Ultimate asks for. Is there a way to set up the computers?

by on January 17, 2012

Q: Why can’t I load the subtitles in mpc and I get a creating dx9 allocation error?

I installed mpc 1.5.1.2903 in my windows xp sp2 then whenever I play video on it and I get an error:

creating dx9 allocation presenter:
CreateDevice Failed
d3derr_notavailable

When I close it the video plays and when I try to load the subtitle I get an error again:

“To load subtitles you have to change the video renderer type and reopen the file.
-DirectShow : VMR7 or VMR9 renderless
-RealMedia: special renderer for RealMedia, or open it through DirectShow
-Quicktime: DX7 or DX9 render for QuickTime
-ShockWave: n/a”

I changed my renderer type to vmr 7 and 9, still it doesn’t change. What should I do?

How come I get DIRECT X ERROR DDERR_GENERIC when trying to run SWAT 3?

by on August 13, 2010

Q: I have recently installed SWAT 3 on my Windows Vista laptop. I can install the game fine, but when I load the game, an error message comes up saying “DIRECT X ERROR DDERR_GENERIC”. I have absolutely no idea what this means or what to do about it. Please do not start talking about graphics cards etc. because I will have no clue of what you are saying. Help would be very much appreciated.

Getting an ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card working in Windows 7

by on October 20, 2009

Q:I am having trouble getting my ATI Radeon 9250 128 p graphics card working in Windows 7. My computer says that card can not run cause it is not supported by the version of DirectX I have. Is there anything I can do to get the card working with Windows 7?

A: Our friends over at Windows7News.com have a solution in their forum that cover your DirectX issue with Windows 7 and the ATI Radeon graphics card. It also covers how to install the driver for the ATI Radeon graphics card in Windows 7 for those that are unable to get the driver installed. Once the driver is installed it also covers how to make it so your computer does not crash each time you try to shut it down due to the ATI Radeon graphics card driver.

Radeon 9550 Will Not Run Direct3D Games

by on January 29, 2008

Q: I am trying to help my friend get his computer working with Direct3D games. It turns out someone installed a new graphics card on his computer recently and now these Direct3D games will not start anymore. When I run DXdiag, I get the following results.

Since you probably do not know Danish this is the translation.

Direct 3D is giving error codes.
0x8876086c
0x8876086c
0x80004005

The graphics card he now has in his computer is a ATI Radeon 9550 and I have downloaded the latest driver from ATI, which is 8-1_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_57717.exe but it did NOT help. I can run OpenGL games but not direct3D games.

A: You will want to try to uninstall your current driver and try using Catalyst 7.8:

The latest drivers apparently don’t work correctly with the 9550. Also make sure you’re running the latest version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft.
