How come I get a boot error on my IdeaPad after taking it apart and putting it back together?

by on January 3, 2013

Q: I have a Lenovo Ideapad y570 with windows 7 which, after a drop in my bag, has had a corner pop up when I open it. Annoyed, I opened it up to see what I can do. I removed the battery, Cd drive, Hard drive, RAM cards and disconnected an unknown chip before I came across a screw that just wouldn’t budge. I reconnected everything to the way it was, and closed it up, disappointed. I turned it on, bored, but on startup, it says this:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key

I have no boot disk, so I pressed F2 on the next startup attempt to see that the computer doesn’t detect the hard drive. Did I do something wrong? Will a boot disk erase my data? And can my data be saved?
