Is it possible for images and song files to get viruses?

by on October 7, 2010

Q: I have great AV software installed but I seem to have gotten a virus anyway. It keeps crashing Google Chrome with a “Windows Application Error 0xc0000022” message.

The safest thing to do is wipe the computer clean and reinstall windows but I worry about transferring my pictures and my ITunes library.

How do I know the flash drive I use won’t get infected by the virus and infect my new computer? Can pics and song files even GET viruses?

Q: I’m running Windows XP. When I try to open a jpeg it opens it with Microsoft Word. I’ve right clicked the file and said open with Picassa or Windows Media but it is still defaulting to Microsoft Word 2003 from office.

How come I cannot access my jpeg files after backing them up?

by on December 2, 2009

Q: I am having a problem with some photo files. I tried to backup some photos with hp photo shop and the backup failed. The program ran to 98% complete then ejected the disc and a backup failed notice appeared. The disc cannot be read and now those photos are showing no preview available. I tried multiple programs to open the files but no luck. A file tool shows that the files no longer have a jpeg header, when the properties of the file shows a jpeg image along with size, date and so on. Do you have any suggestions?

How come my computer does nothing why I try to edit JPEG files?

by on November 30, 2009

Q: I have Windows XP and for some reason I can no longer edit a scanned and filed JPEG document. I have done this many times, now no matter which way I click to edit them, from file, right click or the edit icon on below the picture, I get the hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing happens. In the past, I could click edit, open the document, crop and file and save, now I cannot get the edit to open up. Any idea what has changed on my computer?
