How come the print version of my Word document doesn’t match the Word version?

by on August 18, 2012

Q: I have microsoft word starter 2010 and I made a document and under page layout, page color, fill effect and then picture I upload an image to my document. At this point, I have set up the document to the layout of the image but, when I go to print preview I lose the image. Then if I try saving as a pdf, it shrinks the image and multiplies it all over the page. How do I get it to print as I view it in the editing version?

How come I get a blank page in my document when I do a save as PDF in Word?

by on May 31, 2012

Q: I am trying to save my Word document as a PDF. No problem, except that I get an extra blank page that is three pages before the last page of the document. I have checked the formatting symbols and everything seems to be OK. I added an extra page in case it was trying to make the number of pages come out right, but the same thing. I used an online PDF maker and got the same blank page. What could be wrong?

How come I have word documents that open in word as gibberish?

by on May 30, 2012

Q: I am on my office computer using Windows XP Professional 5.1 SP3; Word 2007 SP3.

I received several .doc attchments to an email (in Outlook), but they open as gibberish in Word. I can get the text in Wordpad, but don’t want to use the documents there, and I cannot save a WP doc to Word.

I have opened other docs from the same sender in the past week, in Word, without a problem.

I checked the file associations, and .doc is set to open with Word, as are all of the other .doc… options. WP is set to open with WordPad, but even when I tried switiching that to Word, I get the same result.

I’ve rebooted twice.

I can’t figure out anything else to do. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

How do I find a Microsoft Word document I saved on a school computer?

by on April 19, 2012

Q: Hello. My name’s Chloe. I’m a student who utilized a university dorm computer (PC) to write a paper. The computer mandates that I log in with my student ID. So I logged on, and proceeded to write my essay in a new Word document, saving it every few minutes. I left briefly, only to return and find that the computer had logged itself off. I logged back on and could not find the Word file I had worked on. Is there any possible way to retrieve the file?

Is there anyway I can get the information out of a word document so that I can format it differently?

by on March 24, 2012

Q: I am taking a online class and my prof gives us a link that downloads a word doc which looks like copied power point slides. These are our notes which we use as a guide to our chapters. Problem is I would like to print them out to use as I read instead of being stuck infront of the computer. This takes about 20-40 pages and tons of ink. Also it is too small to read. Is there a way I can convert the doc back to something more like a word doc?
