How can a remote employee receive calls?

by on February 26, 2013

Q: I work for a consumer report/ call center company and they asked me to help find and recruit certain types of professionals, which in this area is almost impossible.

I was wondering what it would take (technology wise) for that person to receive phone calls at their house. We use Aspect phones and we are already set-up with Citrix to access files and software remotely.

How can I make my computer answer my phone when it rings and then dial a number then hang up?

by on February 19, 2013

Q: What is a relatively simple way to setup a computer with a landline phone input (modem perhaps) so that every incoming call is pick up on the first ring and. then one second later, a touch tone number, like “7”, is dialed, then the line is hung up and the computer awaits the next call, ready to repeat steps 1 through 3.

The application is for the remote unlocking service for the securty door in my apartment. The door is locked with a buzzer system with an integrated keypad to dial the landline phones in the same building’s units so that the resident may answer the phone, identify the caller by talking through the intercom, then pressing “7” on the phone to remotely unlock the door.

I’d eventually like to be able to just speed dial the landline of my apartment from my cell phone and have the door just unlock so I could walk through it without carry my keys.

Also, I can give the landline phone number to trusted guests so that they may enter without having to notify me first.

I suspect that it’s just a simple shareware program but I son’t even know which terms to Google it with. Maybe a timed script ould be run to do the dialing if there’s no automatic dialer that also answers first.

Is there any simple free software to record phone calls direct to PC via a telephone?

by on October 9, 2011

Q: Hi, is there any simple free software to record phone calls direct to PC via a telephone / fax modem?

it is legal here to record your own phone calls on your own phone line.

the way my modem fax is connected, if i send a fax and lift the phone up, i can hear the fax.

I downloaded some free software, but it records through the sound card via an “adapter” got me quite lost.

is there a simple no cost way to start recording a phone call, when i choose to – to my PC?

How come my home phone and cell phone ring at the same time?

by on April 30, 2010

Q: Some how my land line and cell phone sometimes ring at the same time. One time I would think was just a coincidence but it has been happening at least once every few days for the past couple weeks. The two numbers have never been associated with one another such as forwarding etc. They both ring at the exact same time and my cell shows a private number but my land line phone is just a regular call like family or friends. This only happens randomly and not for every single call to the land line phone. How is this possible? Any ideas would be appreciated.

How come one caller cannot leave more than a 20 second message on my answering machine?

by on April 26, 2010

Q: I have a Panasonic cordless phone with a built in answering machine. My phone is about 8 years old. The phone and answering machine work fine except I have one friend whose calls get cut off by the machine when she leaves a message. She is able to leave about 20 secs of the message and then it cuts her off.

Other people are able to leave messages up to 3 minutes, which is the time limit I have set in the “initial settings” of the phone.

I have checked the internal settings and everything is set-up properly and I regularly clear old messages so it is not that there is no time left on the answering machine.

Do you have any suggestions why this would be happening for this one caller? The individual is not calling from a cell phone.

How can I plug a digital phone into my laptop?

by on December 14, 2009

Q: I have a digital phone, similar to Vonage, and I want to be able to plug it in to my laptop and leverage the wireless network to be able to make calls.

Computer is IBM Laptop, XP SP3.

I intend to plug my patch cable into my network card and be able to use the wireless connection to get out to the internet.

I do not care about latency, I just want to make it work in theory.
