Is a Linksys Skype phone compatible with a Mac?

by on December 26, 2010

Q: I used to have a PC and used a Linksys Skype phone with it and was hoping to use it today on my new Mac but I can’t seem to find any software drivers.

Is this phone really only compatible with pc’s? There’s got to be a way to make it work. It’s Christmas and I want to call my Mum back in the UK.

Any help would be appreciated!!

How come my mirophone does not work with QuickWeb but does with Skype?

by on October 6, 2010

Q: Skype is installed on HP QuickWeb on my new HP Pavillon dv5-2043cle notebook. I also installed it on Windows 7 since I don’t use QuickWeb much, and when I went to use it the audio (microphone or speakers) would not function. I used Skype on QuickWeb and got audio but there were other technical problems. Any thoughts?

Q: I have a Sony Vaio with Windows 7. I like to play fps games and be on skype at the same time, but when I am in game my mic stops working. It is extremely annoying and makes playing L4D2 with friends difficult.

Skype rates explained

by on October 23, 2009

Q: What are the base Skype rates and what are the Skype rates when calling a toll free number to use a calling card?

A: Skype rates are a little complicated to grasp quickly although not that much different from a calling card. Skype wants you to think the rates are very easy to understand by giving you a very simple and easy to read global rate page but they are not. The first issue is the connection fee, that at best is difficult to grasp at first. As of this writing, if you are setup to use the USD and you are calling to a global rate country then your connection fee is $0.039 but if you are calling to a non global rate country then the connection fee is $0.079. How come the speakers on my Toshiba Satellite laptop stopped working?

by on September 30, 2009

Q: I have had a Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959 for 2 months now. I recently downloaded Skype and installed it. Shortly after I noticed my laptop speakers did not work. I plugged in my headphones and got sound. I tried all my settings, drivers, restarting, uninstalling Skype completely and even doing 5 system restores (all of which failed). What’s wrong with my speakers?

What is a good easy to use webcam that can be used with skype?

by on August 26, 2009

Q: I need to communicate with video and audio via skype on a regular basis. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that I use on a daily basis. Still, I consider myself not to be very electronic-savy. Therefore, I would like a webcam that is easy to use, with a built-in microphone and camera. What are your suggestions?
